Day One

Today, my weight loss journey begins. This is not the first time either. What's new about this experience is my approach. By chance, I was watching Dr. Phil in late January. He was discussing a new diet, by the name of 'The 17 Day Diet' By. Dr. Mike Moreno. His approach is to eat healthy. Plain and simple. There are 3 cycles to the 17 day diet. Cycle 1 consists of cutting out processed foods, sugars, and unhealthy carbs. You begin your morning with 8oz of warm water, with the juice of 1/2 of a lemon. Being a mom of 4, I normally don't have time to cut, prepare, or anything else with things like that, so I use lemon juice. Let's be honest. I rarely have time to shave my legs! ;o) The Doctor also has you drink 8oz of green tea with your meals. Currently I am using the Diet Arizona Green Tea. Another huge part of the diet are cleansing veggies, as well as lean protein. You can have as much as your heart desires! Now, when I say that... it doesn't mean to the point where you must unbutton your jeans, for fear of severing your body in half! He also suggests probiotics (low fat, low sugar/carb plain yogurt, greek yogurt, and carb free fruit flavored), which is a wonderful tool to make yummy fruit smoothies, with your 2 fruits a day allowance! I also add in some sugar free jelly to sweeten it up a bit! One of the most important things is the WATER! He wants you to drink 8, 8oz glasses a day. This does not include your tea.

If you are interested in purchasing the book, it is sold at www.17daydiet.com I did spend the extra $20 for priority shipping, since there have been complaints by people who have yet to receive their book a month after ordering. If you are a facebook junky like me, here is a fan page that I ADORE! You will see all of the astounding results from folks on the diet. Facebook Fan page
Last but not least is a blog (click here) that I love to read. She has more detailed info than I, and in my opinion you could use her info to try the diet without ordering the book. While the book has menu ideas, and recipes, Terri gives you the general idea.

Now onto the nitty gritty! Everyday I hope to blog my menu, pros/cons, brags, and complaints. I hope by doing this, it will motivate me to keep going... plus I am sure my friends are sick of hearing about it! ;o) My goal is to lose 20-25 lbs., although it would be better to lose about 30!

Cycle 1, Day 1 menu-
  • Lemon water
  • Breakfast- 3/4 c. of egg beaters, sauteed with diced onion. 1 orange, and green tea.
  • Lunch- grilled salmon, large salad with onion, and tomato. Balsamic vinegar dressing.
  • Snack- Fruit smoothie with a cup of mixed berries, plain yogurt (a mistake I made because of the high sugar) and a tbls of sugar free jelly.
  • Dinner- Tilapia topped with a mixture of lite soy sauce, mixed with crushed garlic. Asparagus and carrots (steamed). Green tea.
